National Institute of Science & Technology(NIST) was legally Established by Sri Shiridi Sai Educational Trust by TamilNadu Govt. aims to democratize higher education by providing it to the students at their door step irrespective of age/sex/caste/territory.

The Primary Objective National Institute of Science and Technology is to impart modern and modular, professional education keeping in view the emerging employment and business opportunities globally. NIST has been established in view the contemporary needs of the Industry and Society globally and to enable the students to make most successful and outstanding career.

NIST aims to democratise higher education by providing it to the students at their door step irrespective of age/sex/caste/territory. In accordance with National Education Policy (1986) of Govt. of India NIST aims to propagate and develop Higher education in the field of Technology obtaining in India in general and in Tamil Nadu, in particular by providing job-oriented and Technical education to such of the students who are too busy in their daily schedules unable to attend regular classes / studies or unable to appear for the examinations conducted by the Statutory Boards / Universities and do not aspire for any Certificate / Diploma / Degree of statutory Board / University but to posses experience, skills for usage in daily life and at their place of work.

The NIST reserves 15% seats for Poor, Backward Classes, Armed Forces Personnel, War Widow Children, Physically Handicapped, and Slum Children in each stream for admission. A 10% discount on fee is also permissible to them subject to verification of relevant documentary proof, also offers scholarship of 50% fee waiver to meritorious and poor students and decision to this effect strictly rests on the management.
